Ball Float Trap

Ball Float traps are mechanical steam traps that operate on the principle of buoyancy (difference in the density of water and steam).

In BFT, a float is attached to a lever that controls the valve.  The valve opens and closes due to the movement of a float, that rises and falls based on the condensate load entering the trap.

As condensate enters the trap, the float becomes buoyant and rises, moving the lever, causing the trap valve to open; and it closes once the flow of condensate ceases. This allows the trap to respond quickly to fluctuations in condensate load.

This trap is provided with two optional features called Steam Lock release (SLR) and Thermostatic Vent (TV). The SLR is a manual operation to release steam that may hamper free movement of the float on water level. The TV will ensure that air and undissolved gases will be automatically vented out when present in condensate.

It is a continuous discharge type steam trap. This trap can handle very high condensate loads and the discharge will be proportional to the differential pressure across the trap.

Due to the working principle of this trap, it can also be used as Auto Air Moisture Drain, as Air Eliminator in liquid line, as well as for lifting condensate, as a pump.
