Automatic Pumping Trap


UKL APT is used to move condensate from low points or low pressure area to an area to higher elevation or pressure. UKL ATP operates on pressure difference across the trap.

The condensate from a process equipment flows into the main body through the inlet check valve.

Case 1 : P1 > Pb (inlet pressure greater than back pressure),

APT functions as mere conventional trap only.

As the condensate level in the pump body rises the UFT Float attached to the outlet port also rises opening the main valve in the trap unit. Condensate flows out just as BFT and the air inside the body is discharged through the exhaust valve.

Case 2 : P1 < Pb (back pressure greater than inlet pressure) / Stalling Condition

APT is automatically switched over to pumping mode.

Condensate cannot be discharged and accumulates in the body. As the condensate accumulates, the attached float also rises. At a predetermined float position, the pushrod of the snap-action unit quickly rises, closing the exhaust valve and opening the motive pressure inlet valve so that motive fluid flows into the main body. The pressure inside the body becomes greater than back pressure through the additional pressure supplied by the motive medium, closing the inlet check valve and opening the outlet check valve. Condensate is discharged to the outlet pipe.

As the condensate discharges, the water level inside the body falls causing the float to descend to lower position. At this point, the pushrod of the snap-action drops rapidly, opening the exhaust valve and closing the motive fluid inlet valve.
